SC/ST Welfare Committee

The two most backward groups in Indian society have been categorized as Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). They comprise all castes, races, or tribes that have historically been socially, economically, and educationally backward. This committee was formed to help and integrate students from such areas into the mainstream. SC/ST welfare committee was established in our college to enhance the welfare of the SC/ST students and staff members. It has been constituted to resolve all the issues related to the SC/ST students and faculties. It is a facilitating center for SC/ST Students and staff members to provide representations to the management and the Government. Also, it facilitates the students for the Government and NGO SC/ST Scholarships.

Objectives :

• To bring students belonging to the SC/ST community at par with the mainstream student body.
• To create a platform where students can point out their problems, regarding academic and non-academic matters.
• To monitor the implementation of reservation policy in the institution

Responsibilities :

• The committee often meets with the students and faculties belonging to SC/ST communities, to understand their problem and take necessary action and/or render them necessary advice/help to resolve the matter.
• Creating awareness among the SC/ST students regarding the various Government and Non-Government scholarship schemes.
• Counselling the students to help them overcome inferiority complex related to interaction with fellow students and personal grooming, etc.
• The Committee gives circulars to all the faculties and informs the students about the various scholarships: namely, SC/ST scholarship, Siblings Scholarship, Tamil Nadu Higher Education Special Scholarship, Meritorious Scholarship, and economically backward Scholarship etc.,
• The SC/ST welfare committee monitors the functioning of remedial coaching programmes for SC/ST students.
• Facilitating remedial coaching, personality development, coaching for competitive exams, and so on.  Personality, and communication skill development, including the current trends & ICT components.
• Conducting Training programme on soft skills and personality development for the students. Awareness about overall well‐being, health issues, and minimizing health risks, Workshops on human rights for students.
